So, as evidenced by the replies, as equipment is - everyone has their
own opinion and you might as well check them all out for yourself. Of
course, I do have my own: I think 3rd is a great place to learn to
waterstart and also pretty easy to stay out of other people's way, just
stay a little downwind, which can be a very good thing when learning and
something that I don't think is as easy anywhere else. The chop
shouldn't be too bad, just don't go out too far. And one of the great
things about 3rd - if you're there when the tide is out, you can walk a
long way if you get stuck - something you also can't say about anywhere
else. Like I said though, check them out for yourself. Also - don't
sail your first time in the bay at Candlestick during ebb tide - if you
have to walk back along the large rocks it really sucks and go somewhere
else before you brave Crissy.
