The information about this has always been a bit sketchy. As last I heard,
the levels of sewage-indicating bacteria were most recently found to be at
an `elevated' level but `within the acceptable range.' This was several
weeks ago, however. There are several places at which readings were taken,
and one which had at one time shown possible trouble was between Berkeley
and Point Isabel!

I've been sailing Berkeley for the last several years, and a few times each
year I've noticed that the water in some places seemed to smell a bit like,
well, sort of like the way in which I'd describe the way in which the city
of Berkeley is run. :o) I haven't heard of anyone who had reason to believe
[she/he] was made sick by sailing in the water during the summer months,
though. Has anyone else heard of such a case?

Regardless of anyone's little presents in the water, lots of people are
sailing at Berkeley these days.

I would recommend choosing between Berkeley and Point Isabel based on which
has more wind. Often it blows well at one place and not the other. Check
the pager; stop by the Berkeley Marina and ask around; or follow advice
posted by Cindoll (I think) a while ago: If there's a stream of fog going
through the gate and turning Northward towards Richmond, bypass Berkeley
and go there; if there are low clouds building atop the hills East of Berkeley
instead, stop at Berkeley. And Alameda can be a good alternative too but I
don't know anything about when it blows there.

Hope it helps!
