Kevin,

I'd check out your homeowner's policy if you have one. You may be covered.
Most windsurfers have had 50-50 experience with coverage under homeowner's
policies. Most policies exclude or limit coverage on 'watercraft'. Some
insurance companies claim windsurfing gear are 'watercraft' and others do
not. I had a loss covered with no problem. Others have fought the designation
as 'watercraft' and won. When I switched to a homeowner's insurance company
that had a spotty history on this, I just added a boatowners policy.

For under $100/year I have a boatowners policy that covers $6,000 worth of
gear with a $100 deductible. This policy pays for itself in piece of mind
alone because I can go to dinner in the Mission and now get overly worried
about what is happening to my gear. I'd hate to have it stolen, but
replacement cost coverage makes for brand new gear in the worst case scenario.

Peter
