I know that several readers regularly drive down to Baja. My extended family is exploring the idea of several week visit next February to Cabo Pulmo, which is a bit south of Los Barriles. I've flown into Cabo airport twice for windsurfing at Los Barriles, but never driven.

I'm thinking about driving my gear van all the way to CP (with two co-drivers), partly for convenience, partly for the "adventure". I've been told to allow at least 3-4 days and am aware of some "rules of the Mexican road", such as try never to drive at night, carry spare whatevers, etc. My experiences with driving in mainland Mexico 25 years ago include having machine guns and Colt 45's waived in my face at remote "military" checkpts, traffic cop shakedowns in Mexico City, etc.

I'd appreciate any additional advice, such as best places to motel/stop on the quick (I hope) trip down and back, etc.

        Thanks, David
