Please put this in perspective! The only durability that the plastic
coating gives is ding resistance, should you bonk the board on a rock. The
plastic coating does _nothing_ structural. And the structural strength of
production boards stinks. I broke 3 production boards each inside of 6 months,
my last one, a Mistral Screamer CHS construction, took 3 months. The rail
cracked open. This was 5 years ago, and I'm a lot more abusive on equipment
now than I was then. My custom boards have lasted 3 years with no structural
problems and are still going (~100 days/season).

This is personal experience. And at 6'8" and 225lbs, I put boards to the test.
