Spoke with Trang's brother Thinh, last night (Thursday, August
15). Trang is now conscious and able to response to his doctors.
His hip is not broken but fractured. He remains in the ICU with
biggest concern now being possible pneumonia and/or infection in his
lungs. Thinh spoke with cautious optimism ever though Trang's
condition still serious. I was very pleased to receive this good
news!

5:00pm the wind at 3rd Ave notched up in a big way. Unfortunately a
very popular and experienced kiter, Trang Tran, attempting to land
his kite, caught a gust of wind that slammed him into the concrete
drainage canal. This is just below the beach at the old, original
3rd Ave launch site. He took a direct hit on the head (w/o helmet)
and was inside the canal and underwater for a couple of minutes
before he was dragged out, semi-conscious and vomiting mostly sea
water, by a couple of bystanders and windsurfers.

He is currently at Stanford Medical Center in the east ICU. Because
of a new federal regulation, patient status is only released to
family members. If anyone has an update to his condition, please
share.
