Sunday, August 10th about 5:00pm the wind at 3rd Ave notched up in a
big way. Unfortunately a very popular and experienced kiter, Trang
Tran, attempting to land his kite, caught a gust of wind that
slammed him into the concrete drainage canal. This is just below
the beach at the old, original 3rd Ave launch site. He took a
direct hit on the head (w/o helmet) and was inside the canal and
underwater for a couple of minutes before he was dragged out,
semi-conscious and vomiting mostly sea water, by a couple of
bystanders and windsurfers.

He is currently at Stanford Medical Center in the east ICU. Because
of a new federal regulation, patient status is only released to
family members. If anyone has an update to his condition, please
share.
