I have enjoyed listening to the sailing club guest speakers here at
NASA Ames for several years now. I have seen some great speakers.
Until now, you had to get a visitor's badge to get to the meeting
locations. But now the sailing club has moved is meetings to the Ames
Visitor Center which is outside of the NASA Ames gates so anyone can
attend without needing to get a visitor's badge. The Visitor Center
also has a nice museum and gift shop in it. I think it is a fun place
to visit even when there is not a sailing club talk there.

To reach the the Ames Visitor Center, take the Moffett Field exit from
Highway 101, turn left in front of the Moffett Field Main Gate, and
follow the signs to the Visitor Center. It is about a 1/4 mile down on
the right. The Ames Visitors Center can be reached at (650) 604-6274.

So come on out and join me at the sailing club meetings. They
are open to everyone.

Michael

Here is the last sailing club message sent out to people at NASA Ames.

TO: Resident Staff

FROM: Lisa Lockyer, Communications Chair, Ames Exchange Council

Sailing Club meets the second Thursday of every month (Feb-Nov) from
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Special Events room of the Ames Visitor
Center/Giftshop. A new speaker is featured every month, topics range
from local sailors and local destinations to international cruising
destinations and world famous professional sailors. Fun and
informative topics such as GPS and sextant navigation, tides/currents,
sail trim and sailing safety are also part of regular club meetings.

Come join the Ames Sailing Club at its first meeting of the year:

Lecture Topic: "Tahiti and the Leeward Societies"

Guest Speaker: Bob Diamond
                Director, Spinnaker Sailing Club

Thursday, February 13th
11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Special Events room
NASA Ames Visitor Center/Giftshop (Building N-233)

The Club also coordinates numerous on-the-water events every year like
day/evening sails, whale watching, racing (for sailors of all
experience levels), and overnight cruises both locally (San Francisco,
Monterey and Catalina) and in tropical destinations. Social activities
accompany many sailing events: wine tasting, picnics, lobster dinners.

The purpose of the Ames Sailing Club is to provide a forum for those
interested in the art and sport of sailing. The Club also facilitates
access to Bay Area sailing schools and charter companies.

To join the club and receive email regarding club activities, come to a
meeting or contact Jeff Smith at 604-2586.
