- Generally it's called a "universal". There was a rash of them
breaking about 4-5 years ago, basically a bad batch from manufacturer.
I check mine for cracks pretty often and retire them after 2-3
seasons regardless. When they do break there is a pretty good
chance that the board will get trashed in the process ( mast
base slams into deck of board ). IMHO, $40 is cheap insurance.
