I was reading about a sailor who reached the west pillar at the bottom of the San
Mateo bridge. A friend of mine also ended up losing gear in this
manner a couple years ago. In my friend's case though, I believe he
was on the east pillar. (!) My question is this: do both pillars have
ladders or someway that one can climb up?

Also, my friend wasn't lucky enough to have a radio, so he climbed up
the pillar all the way to the walkway underneath the road (yeah, it
blows my mind, too). Do both pillars have ladders? Do both
have a way off for those who don't carry radios?
