Well, one thing seems certain. SFO has managed to convince a lot of
people that the salt ponds are directly connected to the proposed
runways. I guess that $50 million or so spent on public relations is
working. And it is a fact that SFO wants everyone to think that.

But the truth is, it doesn't need to be that way. Those
"environmentalists" have been after the salt ponds for a long time.
And only one group - one person really - supports the trade of salt
pond restoration for runways. The rest that I'm aware of want the
salt ponds and NO ^&^%$ RUNWAYS in the bay. Of course, it's easy to
talk. But if YOU want to stop it, get involved. Start by showing up
for the Earth Day event Peter Thorner mentioned.

Or maybe you should just believe everything the airport says. It's
your choice. You could sail on the Foster City Lagoon after they
build the runways.

And it will be $10 billion. But who's counting...?
