Consider it WS insurance. These proactive
upgrades cost ~$300/yr for moderate abusers.
But if you break a single point failure component
(mast, boom, base, board) out far and lose all your
gear being rescued, then it cost $3000.

If you have new reliable gear, properly setup
(EG mast-pieces screwed tight, and base secure), then
only an injury could stop you. Don't attempt high
risk maneuvers further away from the launch
than you can swim in with a broken ankle.

It would be interesting to analyze the 60 ft. baker
rescues and document how they should have been
prevented. It's a shame Davis veto'd the boater's
safety license, and the Feds cut the CG budget.
