I have been using the USGS model to get an idea what is happening out there
and I think it is pretty good.

http://sfports.wr.usgs.gov/wind

The model for 11:00 a.m. showed Davis point going great. At noon it showed
Davis weakening significantly and Pt. Isabel was coming up. Isabel probably
rocked for an hour and a half and then turned into gusty 6.0+ conditions. I
can't get the USGS site to respond tright now, but it might be interesting to
look at the archived hour by hour picture to see how well it reflected what
occurred at Pt. Davis.

As to going out alone at Davis Point... I have a buddy break a mast late in
the day there and it took us three hours to make shore from the channel using
the buddy system including towing for the first hour. The good news is that
the water temperature is pretty high up there since San Pablo Bay is pretty
shallow on the whole. There is minimal boat traffic up there to help out. I'd
excercise the same level of caution I would in the channel off 3rd or Coyote
which for me means ideally a buddy, head in if it gets sketchy, and have a
radio and a light source for true emergencies.
