I believe the contact would be with the Golden Gate National Recreation
Area. Physical installation would be a piece of cake, and the SFBA, being
non-profit, is the entity which should do it. Who's our Crissy person?
(I'm happy to fill my tiny 'role' doing the install; permission and access
are the big issues which seem to take forever.)

A sensor on Anita Rock would be awesome, eh?, and there's no technical
reason why not. Solar power, delivery via either radio or celphone (yes a
cell phone works there just fine; this is one area of claimed "water
coverage" which really IS covered) can be done. A unit similar to that on
the jetty at TI would serve beautifully; how to get the data remains a
question. My understanding is that it's already being broadcast via digital
radio, an area in which my understanding is really lax.

The hard part here is the fact that Anita Rock and its radar reflector are a
navigational aid, and the US Coast Guard, for great reasons, likes to
maintain very tight control of it. And any change made to it needs to make
it onto a lot of maps upon which lives depend. I would bet that proper
pursuit could result in a sensor there; again I shudder at the political
effort.

Who's our Crissy person? Bill Robberson has left the SFBA to avoid
conflicts of interest and/or the appearance thereof (or so it was reported
by Windsurf Mag, certainly not by the SFBA to its members (yep SFBA
communication dig, so sorry!); my impresssion is that he was the driving
force on a lot of fronts, the windtalkers one of those. We clearly need
somebody who can jump the political hurdles to be on the task; we clearly
have at least two members interested in maintaining hardware.
