The only way it could take 20-22 hours is if you had problems (or a recent
rain) on the dirt road. I would hate to see that dirt road when it's muddy.
I think in a lot of cases the 20+ hour drive stories are attempts to
dissuade people from making the trip.

It takes about 8 hours to get from the Peninsula to the border (driving
80ish on I5). From the border, El Rosario is less than 250 miles away. It
took us about 5 - 6 hours to get to El Rosario (about 40-50 mph average).
The dirt road was in good condition - and it took maybe 1.5 to 2 hours - and
that was being relatively slow and cautious. We didn't speed (ok... not
much - at least in MX) but we also didn't do a lot of messing around either-
most meals we ate in the car, only bathroom breaks when we stopped for gas,
etc.

It's really a relatively easy drive - not much longer than to the Gorge -
and infinitely better sailing IMHO.

It was fairly crowded - maybe 15-20 at times at the point with another 20 or
so at Old Man's. Lots of people from So. Cal., a few Euros, but also a huge
number from the Gorge. BTW, all the Gorgies were telling me it took them
about 28 hours from Hood River to San Carlos...

Brad
