A little off geographically, but...

Sailed Saturday and Sunday at upper Kanaha on 3.7 and 4.2 with an 85 liter JP
board... super overpowered even with excess downhaul and outhaul. Did my
first half loop with a half twist (yah, I was trying to do that ... really!)
and got backwinded upside down onto the reef. The carnage to the body was for
the most part proportional to the gear carnage. Luckily the guys and Neil
Pryde Maui have a good board repair team. On the topic of gear in Maui, Neil
Pryde Maui was awesome. I don't know if they are the cheapest, but every
single person on staff knew their stuff and was very helpful. The gear was
all excellent with new 2000 everything including carbon booms, etc.

Aloha now has direct flights from Oakland to Maui and it was cheaper than
flying out of SFO. The service is on brand new planes with decent leg room in
coach, free mai tais, cookies warmed up so that the chocolate chips are
gooey, etc. The outbound flight gets you in around 12:30 so you can sail on
your travel day. Maybe if we all fly Oakland, SFO won't have such a strong
motive to fill in the bay.
