I was indeed wearing booties. But I adjust my straps as I imagine
most people do, so that my feet don't fall out too easily on jumps.
I think if the rubber on the sides of your feet are tight, too, then
you are setting up for problems, but that was not my case.
Years ago, after Larry Dini (remember B&D Sports?) had an ankle injury, I
started yanking my feet out during a fall, but over the years I had
gotten lazy since they "always" came out on their own. Now I'm actively
pulling them out again.
