For the above requirements (B&J, higher wind slalom), I would suggest checking out the
following boards:
- prodution:
* F2 Axxis 261
* JP Freeride 265
* Bix Saxo 264
- custom:
* ASD Mutant 8'6"
* ASD Enduro 8'6"
I went with the F2 Axxis 261. So far, I (165lbs) have sailed it with 3.5, 4.0, 5.0,
and 6.0m2 sails; which pretty much covers its full range. I use the 3 strap config
instead of the 4. For the small sails, I use a wave fin; it sails pretty loose with
the wave fin. Great for bay swell riding. With the 5.0, I used the stock swept back
blade fin; a little more slalom-like ride with this fin. With the 6.0, I used a
straight blade; slalom feel and great speed in this setup. It jibes real smooth and
seems to carry a plane through the jibe better than my old Axxis 258.
If you can, try to demo as many boards as possible before buying.

Subject: Boards: comment and question
Regarding the previous post, last year I bought a used Gorge Animal 7'10"
for those really windy days (the Gorge blew like crazy). I got it to
replace a Seatrend 8'3" which was too hard to control on jumps and too
difficult to keep down when I did not want to jump (I'm 140#).
The Gorge Animal I have is perfect for 4.0 and under wind. The first time I
could sail 3.5/3.0 at Tomales and actually have fun.
Now for a question: I want a board for 4.5 to 5.5 wind for use mainly at
3rd, Rio and Berkeley. I am leaning heavily towards the Naish 8'7" but
several people have suggested the 8'5" instead. I seldom sail the surf.
Jumping and carving the swell are my main requirements. Any boards equal to
the Naish but not so expensive? Anyone riding a Naish?
