What Justin is not telling us is that is #195 of pure muscle, not
fat... which is what you must have to handle sails that size... ;-)

It seems like nobody has been talking about wind.

Well, since the beginning of August, Crissy Field has been sailable in
the late afternoon till dark *EVERY* single day with the exception of
last Sunday (rain) and a couple of other days in between.

For example, yesterday blew a solid 7.8 for me until 15 minutes after
sunset.

Not only has it been sailable, but it has been blowing until after
sunset. Plus the water is warm.

Please note, when I say sailable, I mean planable. This year I have
mostly sailed on my 7.8 and 7.3 IQs at Crissy.

After my first year of racing, I can definitely say that I really like
the modern salom gear for the following reasons:
1. You're powered up if anybody is.
2. You can always get home.
3. You can always practice light wind stuff such as tacking and
   heli-tacking if you can't plane.
4. You can sail way upwind (to the GG Bridge) and way downwind very
   quickly.
5. Light wind jibe tricks (Carve 360, Flip Jibe) are fun on the big
   gear.
6. The big stuff feel lighter all the time.
7. You get a great workout sailing the big gear.

I just demoed a new ASD slalom design, the Flapper (Ken Winner's
patent). These boards are great. Big fat guys like me (195#) can get
planing pretty easily. The wide tails work great with the new super
long fins (46cm). The width (25") makes light air freestyle pretty
fun. The upwind ability is amazing.

All I need now is a 8.2.

BTW, the new slalom sail sizes are NOT comparable to recreational and
wave sails. A '97 7.8 is probably the equivalent of 6.8 a couple of
years ago.

The downside of this new gear is that there is very little excuse not
to sail. :-)
