Subject: Thefts/Locks/Insurance Reply

My State Farm homeowners insurance policy is covering all gear (2 boards +
carbon mast, fin, straps, tie-downs etc.) stolen off top of car parked in
front of my house at full current retail for "similar" models. For
example, I chose a 1997 Bic Veloce 288 to replace 1994 Bic Astro Rock.
Downside of this process is psychic shock of losing your comfortable gear
(but I am recovering really fast!) and State Farm now unilaterally upping
my deductible from $250 to $500 (but maybe rate decrease? - stay tuned).
Needless to say, I am strong advocate of insurance.

I, too, have heard of a lot of van thefts and am not overly confident of
that option (one car stolen already in my life - Camry, no gear). Am
tempted to "risk" the wire/lock option and leave on car. However, locking
bar on ends of Gorge Rack seems excellent idea, and simpler with no wire
"threading" problems. Would take James W. up on his offer, but already
have rack. May custom build my own lock bar - James, can you give more
detail?? Thanks, David
