I had two boards stolen off my car, parked in front of my house, in
1990. I got a cable locking system and started parking in a less
visible spot and have had no trouble since then with boards on the roof
7-9 months each year. I think the cable is worth a lot - it increases
the time needed to get stuff off your car from seconds to minutes
(assuming no huge cable cutter). This is probably enough to cause
most ripoff artists to look for something easier.
