Fellow Shredders and Wavesailors:
I can see Mavericks from my sailboat, where I live in Pillar Point
Harbor. Many hours have been spent drinking coffee in the morning
watching the waves break. In the last 10 years of living there I have
never seen anyone boardsailing there at Maverick's proper. The surge
and ebb tides would make it too difficult, if not suicidal. The
Pillar Point Harbor Patrol has grown weary of fishing the bodies of
surfers out of the surf zone, at significant risk to themselves.
DON'T BE THE NEXT MAVERICK'S VICTIM. THERE ARE MANY BETTER PLACES TO
BOARDSAIL IN THE VICINITY.
(If you think you are really good check out the Southeast Reef between
Buoys No. 1S(green) and No 2(red) located 1 miles South of the Harbor
Entrance, great waves with a nice even break during, and after, the
storms!)
However stay tuned, more winter storms are surely coming soon. When
the wind is Southerly the Harbor has truly marvelous smooth water
reaching conditions that can't be beat. I check it out every morning,
and I will report it here when it is exceptional.
Until Then, Safe Sailing,
JWC on KANDU,
Pillar Point Harbor
Half Moon Bay, CA
PS Good local sailing and surfing information can be had at Cafe
Classique in El Granada. All the locals hang out there on weekend
mornings.
