First, sail with a mast foot tried and proven to be durable. I recommend
the Streamlined Tendon Mastfoot. Most locals here in Pistol River use them
wavesailing. I repair a lot of other brands and convert a few radical
sailors over to them.

Second, sail with friends! I saw a guy break a joint on the outside jibe at
Punta Chivato. A couple of us went over, his buddy was there first, got the
directions in the bag where the spare was. He was back within 10 minutes
and the broken foot was replaced. A few tacks and the show was back on the
road.

Spare line is a must, a track nut is good too. This is usually more helpful
down on the beach.
