I have to disagree with this pretty strongly. A large sail doesn't
really compensate for lack of resistance under the board.
Particularly during waterstarts and right before planing, nothing is
worse than being on a board whose fin is too small for the conditions.
You end up doing lateral movement instead of going forward.

When I was in the Gorge I used an Axis 258, which at 8'5" was too
small for some days when the wind was weak (I'm 170lbs). I found that
putting a larger pointer onto the board on those days gave me enough
added lateral resistance that I could keep the board going in a
straight line even while slogging.
