Subject: Friday at Waddell

For those of you feeling sorry for yourselves about the promising but
apparently unsailable conditions at Coyote and 3rd on Friday, here is
what it was like at Waddell:

At 2:15 on Friday, the windtalker said 18-34, averaging 28. Yes!
Well, it wasn't quite accurate. Make that 8-34, with never more than
about 2 minutes at any particular strength.

Run #1 - got launched beachstarting my 5.0 in a gust, then broke my finsaver
as I caught my fin on the sand. Sailed out 50 yards and back, replaced
the fin nut.

Run #2 - Got 100 yards off the beach, and fell jibing. Barely enough wind
to waterstart - took about 5' to slog back to the beach.

Run #3 - After debating whether to just pack up, the wind picked up to 4.5,
so I launched again. The wind died completely, just as an overhead high
wave (a rogue among the mostly knee high sets) broke in my face heading out,
and broke my mast to boot.

Summary: 10 minutes, $200, no fun.

ps: Went back Saturday, and had a great time on my 5.0.
