Some you may have noted the signs at 3rd Avenue that warn that the water
might be contaminated. The source of the problem is some construction work
that is going on at the San Mateo sewage treatment plant farther up 3rd Av.
Some *treated* sewage is leaking into the bay because of the construction.
Earlier this week, the city of San Mateo was worried that the leak might
render the water unfit to boardheads so they posted the signs. The results of
the water sampling came back yesterday and they found that the level of
toxicity was OK. You can ignore the signs if your immune system works fine.
They stopped the work this week because the tides are very low and it
increases the toxicity level. The work will go on for a while and the signs
may remain posted.
Just remember, sewage or not sewage, don't swallow...
