Hi.

The National Park Service met late yesterday and decided to open the channel to the Crissy Field marsh tonight (Wednesday, June 2). A channel to the marsh will be cut from the bay at 4:30 this afternoon, but the final connection will not be made by the excavator. On the advice of our marsh engineers and the NPS marsh biologist and hydrologist, the final connection will happen naturally about 11:30 p.m. tonight when the 6.8 tide rises. There is another high tide tomorrow (6.9); this will give the inlet several strong tides to flush through the channel. The Park Service has been monitoring the marsh since it closed, and it was decided to open it now because the relative height of the tides and the sandbar made it apparent that it would not open by itself. We know that your big event at Crissy Field is coming up in July, and opening the channel now will give the shoal time to stabilize before then.
