I haven't been sailing in the gorge lately, but spent 2 summers
there before moving here. IMHO Crissy is WAY choppier than the
Gorge. I think that the Columbia's currents are way less complex
than the craziness that is Crissy and this results in a lot smoother
water than Crissy. I can't ever remember hearing the term 'voodoo
chop' in the Gorge which is obviously very common at Crissy. I also
can't remember my knees hurting after sailing there the way they do
here after a day of port side pounding through the tide line.

I also think that boards made for the Gorge are not really that
great on the Bay. The wind is stronger and you don't have the huge
wind shadows that you have here. Distances are small and there is
nothing comparable to the Shlog from 3x 'the buoy' back to the beach
after the windline moves offshore. You typically don't really have
to sail upwind or downwind (such as to/from the North Tower).

For comparison sakes when I lived in the Gorge my only board was an
8'0 (150lbs).

Just my 2 cents.

looking at the board is that the shop selling it says it's really
popular in the Gorge and great in the chop. I figure Gorge
conditions are pretty close to Crissy, though I think the chop at
Crissy is more harsh. Then again, the shop could just be feeding me
a line of shit.

thanks for the input!

My guess would be that the wide tail would be a pain in the ass at
Crissy in particular, the chop will tire you out. But then, with
that comes a lot of stability for slogging out through the wind
shadow, and I bet it points really well and can take bigger fins
than most waveboards.

Me - I like narrow tails and small fins, so I would never want to
get a board like that. I rode one other board that had a similar
outline, it was a custom, but somewhat similar concept, real wave
rocker, wide and short, very thin. Was really sweet on a wave,
super-easy to plane off, but chop (especially on a bigger wave) was
a problem. Wouldn't be my choice.

Why not just get a more traditional wave board? 56-57 cm wide,
80-85 liters? Many of them are superfast these days. One board I
would consider for the mix of conditions you are describing is the
Fanatic Goya FreeWave 85. Never had that one, but the Goya boards
are my favorite of all production boards I've ever had/ridden.
