This from the National Park Service:

On the weekend of October 11 - 14, 2002, there will be a gathering of
the
Costanoan-Rumsen Carmel Tribe at Crissy Field in the Cypress grove just
off
the promenade and adjacent to the marsh. The tribe, one of several
descending from the indigenous Ohlone/Costanoans of the SF and Monterey
Bay
Areas with whom the park has a relationship, will be gathering as a
community to carry out discrete religious activities. Please note that
some staging of this gathering will take place in the east beach parking
lot, but that it is not anticipated that this will have a significant
impact on the parking and circulation of vehicles in this area.
