The article can be found at:
http://www.bayarea.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/3671935.htm though the
picture that accompanied the article in the paper showing the launches is
absent. In the newspaper article, one of the launches appears to be at the
current boat/windsurf launch at the eastern end of the island towards
Berkeley. The other appears to be near the west corner towards SF.

It'd be cool if they put in small paths from the water, a la Third, all
along the rip rap between the west corner and the boat launch for egress and
ingress. 50 yard intervals with wide access points at the two endpoints, a
la Oyster, would be awesome. I'd prefer a launch on the front of the
breakwater at the existing boat ramp, unless one has beeen installed since
the last time I was there. Sandbags sponsored by SFBA in the interim would
be cool - I'd show up for a work party.

Haven't noticed any parking at the west end of the island. Isn't there a
gate and a couple blocks of a walk from the road? A couple parking lots
adjacent the major ramps would be great, though we've already got the one at
the existing boat ramp. Maybe one in the middle, I just don't know what the
distance along the shoreline is.

I'd argue strenously that shoreline access on navigable waterways with
necessary parking is mandated by federal laws. I think this can be argued
to benefit the public at large, not just windsurfers. A shoreline path with
improvements and lot's of parking would benefit the public as whole -
fisherman, joggers, cyclists, families, not to mention the tourist
opportunities due to the killer views. I think small improvements for
windsurf access is totally justifiable. Not to mention the huge draw that
kiters and sailors would be with that killer backdrop. Imagine Olympics
2012 or some future Extreme Games with the SF skyline and Golden Gate bridge
as backdrop and world class windsurf, kite and sailing competition!

I though somebody like Bill Robberson was on this.
