The bottom line is that Crissy is OFTEN very windy outside (4.5 to 5.0
wind), and very light for the first 100 - 500 yards (1-3 Anita rocks).
Iwindsurf can't change that. Dozens of folks are ALWAYS standing around the
parking lot 2-3PM waiting for the wind to fill-in. Personally, I'd rather
use a floatier board and a bigger sail (with lots of downhaul and an
adjustable outhaul) and go for it, rather than sit and wait, but to each his
own.

It's true that our Crissy Field sensor is not always a good measure of
windspeed on the water, but it can still be helpful. Based on years of
sailing in and forecasting for the Bay Area, Mike Godsey has posted
extensive "sensor notes" for the Crissy sensor at
http://www.iwindsurf.com/windandwhere.iws?regionID=126&geographicalAreaID=4&
siteID=214&Isection=Local+Info (you might need to re-assemble this URL if
it's split by the mail software).

In addition to our own sensors, we try and post to our website any data that
might help decide where/when to go sailing in the Bay Area, including NOAA's
mid-span GG reading and others: check http://www.iwindsurf.com/sfbay/ . You
can also get to a collection of other web-cams relevant to Bay Area sailing
from our site.
