Senate Bill 244 sponsored by State Senator Jackie Speier has passed in the
California State Senate and the State Assembly. This bill ensures that the
environmental review period for any new runways at SFO would be at least 120
days and it ensures that San Mateo County would have a right of approval
given that the new runways would be located in waters that lie within San
Mateo County, Please contact Governor Davis and ask/demand that he sign this
bill into law. Let him know that a project of this size will take longer to
review and that the people who will be most impacted should have a voice.

           DIGEST : This bill increases the review period for draft
          environmental impact reports for airport expansion or
          enlargement projects and clarifies that the acquisition of
          tideland or submerged land for airport expansion or
          enlargement requires city or county approval.
