That was my experience. I was at the same almost-jibing stage and
borrowed a friend's Tiga 257. It was love at first ride. The 257 is
only 8'5" but 23" wide. 7 years later, I'm still sailing it, but alas,
the 257 is no longer made. I think wide is the right idea.
