Peter,

I've just put the proceeds from my Bush 'tax relief' check into the mail
for SF Bay vote yes-can't think of a more appropriate way to use money that
should have paid down our national debt. Since that $ is essentially a
windfall, maybe others might be willing to view it the same way?

So far, there have been no contributions to Bay Vote Yes (Yes on Prop D) by

any windsurfers whose names I recognize.

As someone who has donated $400 in donations and expenses and 50 hours of
time to the campaign (and 500-1,000 hours on the broader SFO issue), I
don't
feel embarrassed to ask that some of you do your part. Even if you don't
live
in SF, you can make a contribution.

www.bayvoteyes.org/contribute

For over two years, people have asked me whether it is a waste of time to
fight the SFO/Willie Brown machine. If you only fight the fights you know
you
can win, you will never have a meaningful impact on anything. Now we are
gaining ground and we have a clear shot at taking the decision out of the
hands of the Airport Commission appointed by Willie Brown. Approval of Prop
D
in SF will mean that any bay fill of 100 acres or more in or by SF will
need
to go to the voters.

Approval of Prop D will still leaves the door open for runways, but it
gives
the airport the motivation to come up with a plan that is reasonable and it

gives the people in SF a voice. If SFO persists with a plan that doesn't
make
sense, then we'll need to get out again and educate people when the runways

go before the voters. This is it'\246 now or never. If this amendment fails
in
November, then the fate of the Bay lies in the hands of Commissioners who
are
more concerned with SFO's market share than with a regional solution or
environmental impacts.

I wish everyone in the Bay Area would have a vote, but for now SF has the
only thing going. Some groups are pushing for a similar vote in San Mateo
County, but the other counties can only get in through a change in state
law.
If your not from SF and wonder whether you should contribute time or money,

consider the fact that the proponents of runway construction (United
Airline,
Airline Transport Association, San Mateo Labor Council) will not hesitate
to
pump money into a No on D campaign if they think they can stop us,
regardless
of where they or there members are based.

Right now the campaign is restricted in our efforts because of a lack of
funds. Please help out. If we don't get more cash I'll have to ask those
who
attend the kickoff rally to pee in buckets instead of in porta potties.
