Saturday seemed to get everyone primed,
sunday pooped out,
today, monday was looking marginal.

My friend Eric Hansen is getting back into sailing after a 2-year LOA.
He lives on the point right above Duxbury Reef in Bolinas. When he's
home, he's looking right at the coastal wind and waves all the time.

So between the ASD and Boardsports swapmeets and some of my older
gear, Eric is all set up for sailing the Marin county coast with a
quiver of Nalus and an 8'8 ASD. He called me about 1pm, citing building
wind, so...

We went to Tuba today, hoping for something. I even threw in the
Techno, just in case. We arrived late, 4pm, to find whitecaps, but not
raging wind. I called it 5.3 and big fins for both of us. I zoomed
around pretty good, but Eric was underpowered, slogging, and drifting
downwind. I gave him a pointer or two about
light wind stance, and suggested a beach meeting to power up his sail.
We came in further down than I've ever been, and the beach was really
nice! It was a great change of pace. Easing the outhaul did the trick
- he made it back up to the launch. It was an easy and fun sail at my
favorite spot.

I know I've painted a picture of Tuba as a big expedition and primarily
a wave spot, but that's just MY passion. I want you all to know that
it's also a great slalom type spot - kinda like Crissy but the chop is
not quite so brutal. The beach is ALL sand for 2 miles either side of
the launch, and the scenery will refresh your soul - it's federally
designated Wilderness Area. The water is COLD, and so clean.

try it,
you'll like it.
