I just visited Costa Rica last thanksgiving.

The lake gets wicked windy. I sailed the entire day (8am 'till 4pm, with a
lunch break :-) powered to overpowered on a 3.7 and a rather heavy 8'3"
board. And this is at my #210+ dry weight. The water was actually rather
flat for this kind of wind, with some 2-3 foot chop.

I rented from Hotel Tilawa - OK gear and launch. They have mostly Gun sails
(thumbs down) and some northwaves (thumbs up). The boards are all Cascades
glass boards, ranging from 7'8" to 8'6", a bit too heavy for my taste, but
cut through the chop like a knife through butter.

The best place to stay, by far, was hotel Mystica. It is a few miles from
the beach, but has a magnificent setting, is ran by a very nice Italian
family, and the food there is good, which is rare in CR.

Hi everyone,

I am planning to travel to Brazil for carnival during the last week of
February. On my way I thought I would take a stop over for some windsurfing

either in Baja San Carlos or Costa Rica.

What is the season for wave sailing in San Carlos? If Feb is not the season

then its out of the picture. If is is the season, anyone ever use Solo
Sports in san carlos? Do you have a contact at solo sports? What were the
flight options?

I have read a little bit about lake arenal in costa rica and it seems like
it would be a great place and this is prime season. Hotel Tilawa seems like

a good spot to stay. Any comments?

Feel free to send direct responses to dnolson@hotmail.com-DeleteThis.com

thanks,
david
