Congratulations on moving to our local paradise and choosing THE sport.
Now how much money and time do you have left over after paying the %$^&*! rent?

* Not much time, lots of money: Professional instruction. ABK and other
pro outfits will give you the best learning per hour. Some local shops
can give lessons as well; check http://www.sfba.org for a listing.
Most outfits don't operate over the winter of course, so if you have lots
of $$$, just head for a vacation spot with a good school. (I've never done
that; any hints from people who have??)

* Moderate amounts of each: Try Cal Adventures at the Berkeley Marina,
  http://www.strawberry.org/caladv/windsurfing.html. Classes will begin
  in March, it appears.

* Very little money, lots of time: Cal Sailing Club, http://www.cal-sailing.org.
Lessons are informal, taught by amateurs (some of whom are very good and
experienced instructors, others not) and only sometimes well organized. One
sometimes waits hours for instruction, sometimes not. But it's *way* cheap.
