I've heard theories based on observations that almost all great whites in the
triangle have their young in late summer down in the Channel Islands. The
female dowsn't eat during pregnancy and is very hungry after birth. The
young sharks and the mother stay closer to shore on the way back up the coast
in the fall. They also are looking for the young seals which there are
plenty of at that time close to shore.
Don't worry, Be Happy, and make those jibes.
In fact this could be a good windsurfing instruction technique. If someone
is really having problems with their jibes take them to Davenport (where the
most hits have happened of any other place) and I guarantee their jibe ratio
will drastically improve. They may not be pretty, but they'll make them. It
worked for me. I desparately wanted to wave sail when I first started and
each time I fell those famous bars from the Jaws jingle would start. I
started making my jibes in no time.
