CPYC Members and Friends of Members,

Senator Burton (San Francisco) and President Pro Temp of the Senate has
managed to use his powerful position to get the State Senate Environmental
Quality Committee to "bump up" SB1562 to the Senate Appropriations
Committee in the next 2-3 weeks. This Bill allows the airport to do minimal
environmental studies on wetlands restoration sidesteping current laws and
regulations! SFO is concerned that these regulations would add 18 months to
their schedule for expansion! We can see where their priorities are!

Email these Senators ASAP. Urge them to vote NO on SB1562. They are
responsible for upholding laws . . . not circumventing them. Proceed with
required environmental studies. Study all alternatives. The SF and the Bay
area are not in an economic crisis . . . but the San Francisco Bay is!

Senator.Bowen@sen.ca.gov-DeleteThis
Senator.Escutia@sen.ca.gov-DeleteThis

Senator.Karnette@sen.ca.gov-DeleteThis
Senator.Kelley@sen.ca.gov-DeleteThis
Senator.McPherson@sen.ca.gov-DeleteThis
Senator.Mountjoy@sen.ca.gov-DeleteThis
Senator.Perata @ sen.ca.gov
Senator.Vasconcellos@sen.ca.gov-DeleteThis

It could go for full Senate vote by June 1st!!!

Point of Interest: Sen. Byron Sher (D Redwood City) and Sen. Bruce McPherson
(R Santa Cruz) opposed Burtons SB 1562! We need to tell them thanks!

***If you are not cruising out to Encinal this weekend please try to go to
the Palo Alto SF Airport Reconfiguration Planning Meeting. Noon to 2:00 at
Lucie Stern Community Center, 1305 Middlefield Rd.

***Also plan to attend the Millbrae meeting Monday, May 1st from 7-9pm at
Greenhills Elementary School/Gymnasium, 401 Ludeman.

It is important to air all concerns at these meetings . . . a last chance
to pose questions for them to study. To bring up issues after May19th is too
late . . . by law, they cannot be considered later . . . SF and SFO are
expecting our apathy . . . let's surprise them what a force we can be.

Yay and Boo Story!
Yay! 7 Peninsula cities united and forced discussions about aircraft noise
pollution with the FAA and SFO Airport Director John Martin. The end result
is the FAA has given permission for planes to fly a new flight approach 1000
feet higher (5000ft), cutting noise up to 2 decibels or 41%.

Boo! However Councilman Fazzino, Palo Alto, assured Martin they were
committed to recognizing the economic importance of the airport and not
trying to reduce number of flights or oppose airport expansion . . . just
noise abatement!! I hope these cities have not sold out the Bay . . . for
noise abatement the FAA could have tried years ago.

Let's act now!
