It's too late to catch a repeat broadcast, but PBS's NewsHour ran an
excellent piece (produced by KQED, reported by Spencer Michaels) on the
SFO runway expansion plans today, and certain environmental groups' deal
with the devil to allow the expansion to go forward. It was fairly
high-level, but one interesting issue was a Stanford professor's study of
the effect the runways would have on Bay current patterns, and the
sedimentation which would build up around the runways over time. A
perspective graphic of the new runway configurations from the SFO tower's
perspective was also very interesting.
