Actually, I have another version, it went on like this:
The main loser is REALLY a loser. All he does is build models out of
matches and glue. Like the GG bridge, the Eifel Tower, the Concord.
And he is very vocal about it and everyone makes fun of him.
This guy has been selected as the dumbest by a bunch of sarcastic people.
So now he's been complaining that his wife has left him for a very
dumb guy:
- really, how is that possible ?, says his host, who is very
interested in getting another world champion asshole for his contest.
- yes, he is so dumb, all he does is talk about windsurfing !
- you'll have to introduce him to me,...
My girlfriend actually had a good laugh at this, which means I must
be one of these, and the person who wrote the script must have some
relationship with a windsurfer: this is not something you invent, but
there is some truth in it.
This shows that, in France like in the US, windsurfers are fanatics
who seem to talk only about their sport. You don't run accross
cyclists that only talk about biking, or skiers that only talk about
skiing. It is much more common with windsurfers, which shows it's a
unique sport !
"The Dinner Game" = "Le Diner de Con"
"con" is translated throughout the movie into "asshole", which is
not exactly what it means. "con" means rather "loser","stupid" or
"dumb", and does not have the "jerk" or "detestable" conotation that
"asshole" has. "Windsurfers are such assholes" should have been
translated into "Windsurfers are so stupid"...
Excellent movie, catch it if it is still playing !
