Third Avenue windsurf access is facing some serious threats. If you ever
windsurf at this great spot, it's time to get involved.
(1) SFO Expansion would wipe out Coyote Point. The current parking situation
at Third Avenue is heavenly compared to what it would be like if Coyote is
lost.
(2) SFO Expansion *could* wreck Third Avenue as well if some forecasts are
correct about the mud levels, silt levels, and sand bars rising.
(3) OUR CHERISHED THIRD AVENUE PARKING COULD BECOME A HIGH SCHOOL PARKING
LOT. What the F*&$ you say? Read this:

Title: Pol's Plank Could Tee Off Golfers
By: Jerry Fuchs

"Foster City Councilmember Eileen Larsen is seeking reelection, and one of
her campaign planks is to put a new high school at Mariners Point Golf
Course when its lease runs out. The golf course has been extremely
successful, producing revenues for the city no one ever expected. And even
more importantly, it has provided a recreation source that is desperately
needed by golfers in the area, especially seniors."

- Eileen Larsen is extremely powerful. She has been credited with almost
single-handedly defeating two local high school bond measures which would
have funded renovations which are so badly needed it's sad. Eileen defeated
those measures by marshalling Foster City citizens to vote against the bond
measure - to get revenge for the High School District turning Foster City
down when it asked for it's own High School. It was shocking to many, but
Foster City voters voted as a block, overwhelming the voters of other
cities, and defeated the bond measures. Larsen and her cronies could very
well get what they want in terms of a 3rd Avenue High School.
- Our parking will continuously be threatened. It should be ours forever for
public access reasons, but Foster City would just as soon put a high school
or a hotel there - so we all need to keep our eyes out or its possible we
may lose it.
- The lease on the golf course will run out. I'm not sure what the zoning
is, but zoning can be changed (especially in the one of the many "Orange
Counties" of the Bay Area -- Foster City) -- perhaps we'll have another 11
story monster office building? Maybe two?

Palo Alto is silting in. Coyotes, Oysters, Tigers, and Seals are on SFO's
endangered species hit list. Our Third Avenue lot could become a high school
parking lot or part of the grounds of a "grande" hotel.

An acquaintance of mine said he had his locks shot out and all of his gear
stolen while windsurfing at Candlestick. But, if ALL of us don't get
involved and STAY involved -- in time Candlestick may be the only Peninsula
spot.

The price of admission has become activism.
-George
