On my recent trip to the Gorge I became a no-cam convert, at least in
the sub 6.0 range. Modern sails handle amazingly well compared to my
quiver from '94. I tried an Ezzy Wave 4.7 and Axis 5.5. Both were
used in gusty conditions -- the Axis in ~18-30mph and the Wave in ~20-40,
typical Gorge. Neither ever became unstable or uncontrollable and the
luffability and handling was great. I'm still amazed that I was able to
control them, let alone make just about every jibe as well. I ended up
buying a few Ezzy Waves since they are now 20% off, which is a great deal.
I'm sure the other manufacturers make excellent products, so you really can't
go wrong. There are a lot of closeout deals available this time of year,
so happy shopping!
If you are still convinced that you want a used sail, www.windance.com has
a large selection, but if you can afford a modern sail it'll make a big
difference in the fun factor and IMO will be worth it.
Happily retiring the old ones,
Chris
