We had a good showing from the windsurfing community last night at the Palo Alto
Airport Expansion Meeting. The room was overflowing and I saw many outside.
Most of the community input was over lack of credibility with the airport and
venting about noise problems. Most of the issues related to the actual desired
expansion consumed a small portion of the meeting. There were several speakers
from the Sierra Club and one windsurfer got to speak though many of us had our
hands up. The windsurfer, didn't get his name, got a good ovation from the rest
in the crowd. Another, Mack, got to speak, but it was over the silliness of
their mud hole they dug out in Palo Alto as a "mitigation" for some other issue.

The airport seems concerned about how to give us mitigation if they shut off
Coyote. They asked for ideas from the community. I was going to ask two
questions on mitigation:

  1. . When will they give us mitigation for Flying Tigers that has been closed
     for many years?
  2. Where and how do they propose to move the fog line which gives the best
wind at Flying tigers and we get our access to it from Coyote Pt?

I would want them to know that we need:

  1. close proximity to the normal fog line
  2. A channel with good tide movement such as we have near the channel markers
which would be cut off from Coyote with the proposed new Bay Fills.

They seem interested in establishing credibility so it might be a good time to
push the Tigers issue once again. The feeling in the meeting was that if they
don't first establish some credibility by delivering what they have already
promised, then why should we let them continue to add to their list of promises
they don't deliver?

Organization sucked. They need to have you sign up before hand to speak and
declare what topic you wish to cover so they don't get 75% of the talking from a
single issue (noise) that isn't really relevant to the new plans.

IF anyone wants to put this information into Suite101.com, we have the tools to
allow you to upload all the files onto our server (including the gifs), hold
several discussion sessions where the comments will be recorded, keep a list of
links that you can use to show the other related links to save our Bay, etc,
etc,.... Email me if you are interested and I will work with the owners about
getting you set up.

I use the site for financial information, but it works for many, many other
community support ideas.
