Had some business in SF, stopped at Crissy on the way
home. Looked like it was blowing steady in the channel. Went
out on 6.2/9'4". Very well powered from 6 until 7pm. Joani
went out on 5.7 (same board) and was VERY powered to opd.
She came back in after getting too cold (the water has been
pretty chilly) and let me go back out.

I sailed until about 8:30. Beautiful sunset behind the bridge/marin
headlands. Nice and flat water for the entire session. Very few
people sailing.

The new rigging/parking area sucks. It's loose dirt that you will
get all over at the end of your session. I know that it will be better
once the complete the improvement project.

Booms: if you have a large sail, a stiff boom makes a difference. Carbon
is more stiff the aluminus and your sail responds better to pumping,
once you get op'd the boom helps you to keep things more under
control.

If you are just sailing for fun - vs. racing, competing w/friends - I think
the Fiberspar is overkill. My rule of thumb is for sails over 6.x I use
carbon. For normal B&J/wave sailing, it's hard to beat the $150
Chinook. I am tough on my stuff - jump too much, land on my gear, etc. -
and the Chinooks last me about 2-3 seasons.
