Today Berkeley was about as good as it ever gets. 20-23 on the pager,
filled in with a nice swell. Very few people on the water. Tired from the
weekend, I guess.

Regarding the previous posts about Berkeley, as a frequent Berkeley sailor,
I could attach names to the descriptions.

Its true that some days the wave in front of HL is quite nice. Today was
one of those days. With the added benefit of only a few people out, it was
possible to sail there. Usually, there is such a crowd, its not worth it.
And most days it in a bit of a wind hole anyway. The crowd still flocks
there, only to end up pumping to stay on a plane. As was noted before, the
best spot moves around.

I do not think there is any hostility however. Just a lot of sailors going
for it. Add to that the fact that there is a huge range of skill levels,
sailboats and kayaks, and it can get pretty crazy. The only collision I
have ever had was there when someone came flying downwind and hit me almost
broadside. I never saw them coming.

Like the right of way on the swell at 3rd issue, a little courtesy and
common sense will go a long way.

Jerry
