Sailed Saturday at Davis Point. Got there around 2:30 and rigged a 4.7
(180#). There were some decent head high swells, with jumping on both port
and starboard. In general the swells were a bit disorganized - but overall
it was a pretty good session. I sailed about 2 hours, when the wind started
to back down and it appeared to begin to flood, so I hustled in.

The last time I sailed there, it was a long slog of several hundred yards to
get to the wind line, but this time I planed up as soon as I walked past the
small cove. The sailing is very 3rd-like, and the best sailing is several
miles out. The wind and the swells are better. I could easily have been on
my 4.2.

Mike Godsey of COTW had told us about Davis Point; it can get good
Delta-like wind, but the reaches are endless, and there can be huge swells.
It appeared that the currents were quite strong. When it was ebbing, I
found myself way upwind. And vice versa. Mike had warned us to be careful
at the launch due to metal objects. The last time, we did not have any
problems. This time it was near low tide, and I had to walk my board out
the cove. While coming in, I did cut my foot coming in, nothing major
though.

This was only my 2nd time at Davis Point, but I hope more people start
sailing here. It generally is windy if there's wind at Pt. Isabel and the
Delta. Here's the URL where you can get hourly wind numbers -

Davis Point is near the Rodeo refinery. Take 80 and get off on the 1st
Rodeo exit and head toward town. Once you get to the water, you come to a
tee in the road. The refinery is on the right, and you take a left, go over
an old bridge, take a left and there's a small parking lot for a park and an
old "fishing resort" and bar.
