Saturday was the windiest day I have ever seen in my windsurfing career. Got to 3rd
around 11:20 and it was cranking big time. Rigged a flat 3.5m2 (165lb) and headed
out. The tide was high, and the swell/waves/chop were pretty big inside. Sailing out
on port was tough; the wind was averaging in the high 30s with gusts to 50, and it was
tough to keep the board on the water when sailing over the waves. So, I sailed very
conservatively going out. Outside jibes were very tough; the sail would just get
ripped out of my hands no matter how hard I oversheeted going in. The only outside
jibe I made was when I timed it during a momentary lull. Coming in on starboard was
alot easier and much more fun. I could ride the waves in, and sail in to the wind
shadow near in the cove and jibe there. My runs were pretty short; no more than half
way to the channel marker.

So, I sailed for three 20 minute sessions from 11:45 to 1:45. The last run was real
short; the wind had picked up another notch and was pretty unsailable for me on port
tack. So, I got my ass back in a hurry and called it a day. One of the Coyote Point
COTW readings around 2:00pm was "42mph avg, 62mph gust"; I kid you not.

Favorite quote of the day; this was from Pierre St.Hilaire just as he got off the
water around 2:00pm: "Windsurfing isn't worth dying for".

Bob
