Bob,
the naish 8'7" will be too big for you. The volume Mistral printed are wrong.
You'll be a lot happier with an 8'5" (86l, not 78l as listed). see the emails
below I've attached - they came from some other mailing list...
The other board to check are the mistral custom wave (red board) which I
thought were very good when I demoed them in Maui (although maybe too
light/fragile IMO) if you are considering Naish. Although it looks like a
bump&jump rather than pure wave board might be what you're looking for. There
is a difference (especially when the waves gets large like they are now :-)).
I would also second the opinion of getting a local board. They would be
cheaper than the $1500+ or so for the JP/Naish/... too.

Hello!
I was just reading the March issue of German Surf Magazine, when I stumbled over the (measured) volumes of the Mistral and Naish boards. The folks at Surf Mag usually do their job very precisely, they measure the volumes of boards in a special water tank, however the differences in this case seem to be rather large. I suspect that there might be a mistake, but - who knows?
Board Mistral Surf Mag Difference Wave 256 80 l 90 l 10 l Wave 265 92 l 102 l 10 l Naish 8.4 67 l 77 l 10 l Naish 8.5 78 l 86 l 8 l
Now, which numbers are correct? What do the readers and testers of other windsurfing mags (Boards, Windsurfing) think of this?
I guess that this is really not a big issue, but I was considering to purchase a Mistral Wave 256, but I need a small board (80 liters or less) and not a 90 lit. "minitanker".
Matjaz.

I just received an e-mail from one of the Surf Magazine's editor. He confirmed that the volumes I quoted in my previous message are correct. He also forwarded me a message from Mistral's product manager Joachim Siegmann where he confirms the correctness of the newly measured volumes. The reason for (quite big) differences is that the Mistral catalogue went in print BEFORE the prototypes were finalized. So they just printed approximate numbers (which, as it came, were seriously underestimated).
The correct volumes should be as follows: Mistral Wave 256 90 l Mistral Wave 265 102 l Mistral Naish 8.4 77 l Mistral Naish 8.5 86 l
If anybody is interested, I can forward the entire message to him (or to the list). Note: the message is in German.
