I have been following the thread on various threats to windsurfing access
in the Bay Area on this list and came across this article in "On the Land"
a publication of the The Trust for Public Land (TPL). They may be a
valuable ally in the efforts to preserve access, as windsurfing is one of
the ways in which people make a connection to their natural environment.
While I have not windsurfed on the SF Bay yet, it is comforting knowing
that there are those who are putting the time and effort into keeping
access open for a time where I might. Keep up the good work.

--- >From The Trust for Public Lands Publication: "On the Land" Winter/Spring 1999, Western Region:TPL Launches San Francisco Bay Waterfront Program By Andrew Haupt Senior Program Associate, Green Cities Initiative
Obscured by buildings, freeways, billboards, and miles of industrial facilities, the San Francisco Bay shoreline remains an amazing recreational opportunity, yet paradoxically out of reach of nearby residents. Within the next 15 years, the population of the nine Bay Area counties is expected to grow by more then one million, straining a park and open space system that already struggles to meet the needs of todays 6.5 million Bay Area residents.
To open greater access to this resource, TPL is working to create three to six new parks along the edge of the bay during the next three years. Our efforts are being generously supported by the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund and the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund.
By implementing conservation projects that both provide public access and protect the bay's natural lands, TPL's new San Francisco Bay Waterfront Program will protect remaining wetlands and tidelands habitat, 95 percent of which has already been lost to development; help people make a connection to their natural environment; and foster a desire among residents to further preserve and enhance the bay shoreline.
